Future City Competition

About the Competition

The 4C STEM Club is pleased to provide students with the opportunity to engage in the Future City Competition, hosted by DiscoverE. This national STEM program challenges students to design and build a model city of the future. Participants imagine, plan, and present innovative solutions to real-world sustainability and engineering challenges, fostering creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking.

What we Offer in our program

  • Teach students fundamental STEM concepts relevant to Future City projects.
  • Form and register student teams for the competition.
  • Guide teams in designing their city model, including urban planning, sustainability, and engineering concepts.
  • Conduct brainstorming and planning sessions for city design and functionality.
  • Provide mentorship in creating a written city essay and presentation.
  • Conduct practice sessions for Q&A and team question rounds.
  • Support creation of the physical city model and digital components.
  • Help students define team roles and responsibilities for effective collaboration.
  • Provide feedback and coaching on presentation skills and visual storytelling.
  • Offer guidance in submitting all required competition materials, including essays, models, and presentations.

Roadmap to Future City Success in Our Program

Introduction & Team Formation

  • Introduce students to the Future City Competition, its rules, objectives, and evaluation criteria.
  • Form and register student teams.
  • Help students define team roles and responsibilities for effective collaboration.
     

STEM Foundations

  • Teach fundamental STEM concepts relevant to Future City projects, including basic engineering, sustainability, and environmental science principles.
  • Discuss real-world city challenges to inspire project ideas.
     

Urban Planning Basics

  • Continue STEM foundations, focusing on energy systems, transportation, and civil infrastructure concepts.
  • Introduce urban planning principles, including city layout, zoning, and public services.
     

Brainstorming & Idea Development

  • Conduct structured brainstorming sessions to generate city design ideas.
  • Teams discuss sustainability and functionality considerations for their city.
  • Mentors guide teams on prioritizing ideas and integrating innovative solutions.
     

City Model Design & Sustainability Integration

  • Guide teams in designing their city model, incorporating engineering concepts, smart technologies, and eco-friendly solutions.
  • Begin planning physical and digital components of the city model.
     

Engineering & System Functionality

  • Focus on functional aspects of the city, including energy distribution, water systems, transportation, and safety features.
  • Conduct planning sessions to ensure interconnectivity and feasibility of systems.
     

Project Essay & Presentation Development

  • Provide mentorship in creating a written city essay, explaining design choices and sustainability initiatives.
  • Guide students in drafting their presentation outline and visual storytelling approach.
     

Project Pitch & Q&A Practice

  • Assist teams in developing their project pitch, emphasizing city innovations and solutions to real-world problems.
  • Conduct practice sessions for team question rounds and Q&A preparation.
  • Provide coaching on presentation skills and visual storytelling.
     

Model Construction & Finalization

  • Support teams in completing the physical and digital components of their city model.
  • Review and refine essays, presentations, and visual materials.
  • Conduct final team collaboration checks and mentor troubleshooting.
     

Submission & Showcase

  • Teams finalize all deliverables, including essay, model, presentation, and any supporting digital content.
  • Provide guidance for submitting all competition materials.
  • Celebrate student achievements and reflect on learning outcomes.
