About STEM Research Program

At 4C STEM Club, our Research Program empowers young innovators to explore and address real-world challenges in their communities. Participants engage in conducting hands-on field studies, analyzing data, and collaborating with community partners to develop practical solutions that promote safety, health, and sustainability. Students learn to think critically, investigate pressing issues, and present their findings and recommendations to local leaders—turning research into real impact.

Research Topics

E-Bike Safety Research Project

About the Project

Participants will assess e-bike usage, rider behavior, and infrastructure safety across the community. Activities include field observations, auditing bike lanes and signage, and surveying students, parents, and residents. The goal is to recommend engineering, signage, and educational improvements to reduce accidents and promote safe riding.


Team Roles

There are six key roles for the E-Bike Safety Research Project:

Project Lead – Coordinate research and timelines.
Field Observation Lead – Observe e-bike traffic, record behaviors, and map routes.

Survey & Outreach Lead – Survey riders and parents on habits and safety perceptions.
Data Analysis Lead– Compile and analyze observations and survey results.
Design & Recommendation Lead – Propose engineering, signage, and educational interventions.
Presentation Lead – Prepare slides, posters, and outreach materials for the final event.

Aquatic Ecosystem Health Research Project

About the Project

Participants will study the health of local aquatic ecosystems by monitoring water quality, observing wildlife, and identifying environmental stressors such as pollution, invasive species, and human activity. The research focuses on understanding how these factors affect biodiversity and overall ecosystem balance. The goal is to develop actionable recommendations to protect aquatic habitats, improve water quality, and promote community involvement in environmental conservation.


Team Roles

There are six key roles for the Aquatic Ecosystem Health Research Project:

Project Lead – Coordinate research and timelines.
Water Quality Lead – Collect water samples, measure pH, DO, temperature, nutrients.

Wildlife Monitoring Lead – Count ducks/other birds, record behaviors, species ID.
Data Analysis Lead– Compile data, produce maps & charts, prioritize hazards.
Human Impact Lead – Trash audit, map runoff, observe feeding activity.
Presentation & Outreach Lead – Create slides, posters, community outreach content.

Safe Routes to School Research Project

About the Project

Students will evaluate walking and biking routes to local schools, identify hazards, and survey parents, students, and staff. This research will inform recommendations for infrastructure improvements, traffic-calming measures, and educational programs to ensure safer routes for students.


Team Roles

There are six key roles for the Safe Route to School Research Project:

Project Lead – Coordinate research and timelines.
Field Data Lead – Conduct route audits, traffic counts, speed measurements.

Survey & Outreach Lead – Design & distribute parent/community surveys.
Data Analysis Lead– Compile data, produce maps & charts, prioritize hazards.
Design & Recommendation Lead – Propose engineering, signage, and educational solutions.
Presentation Lead – Create slides, posters, and handouts.
